UGHELLI – DELTA State Bursary and Scholarship Board, yesterday, awarded scholarships to 522 undergraduate, masters and PhD students of the state origin under its Internal (Local) Scholarship Scheme at the cost of N99.992million for the year 2010.
The beneficiaries include 375 undergraduate students, 104 Masters and 43 PhD students. Presenting cheques of N100,000 to each of the undergraduate students, N200,000 to each master’s students and N300,000 to each of the PhD students, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, said the scheme was in line with his human capital development programme.
He stressed the need for all tiers of government to look critically into the issue of job creation for the unemployed, adding that empowering people without adequate job creation was not good for the society. He added that educated criminals could be a problem to the country.
Earlier in his address, state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Hope Eghagha said the scheme was last implemented during the 2005/2006 academic session and was only awarded to undergraduates students.
