IBADAN – Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, weekend, threw its weight behind the Governor  Adebayo Alao-Akala,  for the passage of the contoversial law that rotates the chairmanship seat of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The law which was passed by the State Legislative arm nullified the earlier order that made the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the permanent chairman of the council.

CCII which  comprises over 100 associations and unions expressed its happiness over the amended law.
Stating the impression of the council, the new President of the council, Chief Bayo Oyero, described it as good news for all the indigenes of the ancient city.

He chronicled the genesis of the call for amendment of  the law and noted the then Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja re-classified it the group argued that the impeachment of Ladoja put every thing at bay.

Oyero said the memo  praying for the amendment of the law was entitled, “the status of Ibadan in Yorubaland”.

He said, “Ibadan can’t be under any Oba in Yorubaland because history is replete with the roles played by the Ibadan warriors in salvaging the Yorubaland from being taken over by the Fulanis and also the role played by the Ibadan warriors to protect the Oyo empire from being taken over by the insurgence of the wars of the olden days”.
