5 arraigned for ritual murder in Minna

Minna –  Five suspected persons  were on Wednesday arraigned before a Minna Chief Magistrates’ Court for murder.

The suspects were alleged to have murdered a 12-year-old boy, Shamshudeen Musa, for rituals in Sabunga Village in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger, two weeks ago.

The suspects are Mohammed Haruna, Musa Ahmadu, Isah Musa, Yakubu Garba and Yakubu Aboki.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Bassa, told the court that the suspects connived to kill Musa after one of them was promised N2 million.

Accordingly, others were promised three bedroom bungalow each if they could provide human body parts for ritual to aid the ambition of a local politician.

Bassa said the three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping and culpable homicide, allegedly committed by the suspects was contrary to the Penal Code Law.

When the charge was read to the accused persons, one of them, Haruna pleaded guilty while the others pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Hassan Mohammed, directed that the case be referred to the Ministry of Justice for advice since the court had no jurisdiction to try the accused persons.

He ordered the suspects to be remanded in prison custody until June 14. (NAN)
