WARRI – THERE was uneasy calm in Warri and environ, Thursday after the Returning Officer Professor Richard Abhulimen Anao, announced the results of the Gubernatorial/State Assembly election which was won by the incumbent Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The calm, Vanguard gathered was consequent upon several computer generated texts messages sent out to electorates on Tuesday, 26th April at about 4PM while results collation had barely begun announcing the result, that the PDP has won thirteen Council areas.
One of such texts with heading ‘PDP Reigns’, read “Umbrella is leading in 13 LGAs, PDP is Winning, Uduaghan back to Govt. House, God is faithful.”
Following the text which was widely distributed, our correspondent gathered that Deltans already know the result before it was announced.
A source in the troubled Ekpan Community of Uvwie Council where some persons were reportedly killed, traced the post election crisis to such texts and the activities of a known youth leader whose activities has crumbled business activities.
As at time of filling this report, armed riot police in over twenty patrol vans were seen in a power show, driving round Warri, Effurun and Udu as a warning to any would-be trouble maker.
Apart from Skinn Road and Victory Avenue were some PDP members gathered to celebrate, the metropolis was relatively calm as people go about their businesses with Okada riders seen at various newspapers vendors’ stand discussing the result in hushed tone.”
