KANO -Elder statesman, and former Special Adviser to President Shehu Shagari, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has urged Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Muhammadu Buhari to quit partisan politics now in the interest of national unity.
Tanko Yakasai’s advice to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo of the Peoples Democratic Party and General Muhammadu Buhari of the Congress for Progressive Change, came on the heels of the formal announcement by General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida to quit active politics by 2015.
The former Presidential Adviser, himself, a founding father of defunct All Peoples Party quit partisan politics in 2002.
Alhaji Tanko Yakasai stated that though the decision of the Minna-born Infantry General came too late, but he however, commended Babangida for the sacrifices inherent in his decision.
The Elderstateman told Vanguard in Kano that ‘ the time is ripe for the duos of Obasanjo and Buhari to toe the line of other former Nigerian Heads of state who had seen the wisdom to distance themselves form active politics for desired growth and necessary cohesion’.
Tanko Yakasai was of full of praises for four living former Heads of state; General Gowon, President Shagari, Chief Shonekan, and General Abdulsalami for distancing themselves from partisan politics despite the lure and temptations.
