Presidential poll: Massive women turnout in Sokoto

Sokoto -Presidential election kicked off in Sokoto metropolis in a peaceful and manner with eligible voters awaiting the arrival of  INEC officials as early as 7 a.m.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that eligible voters, especially women thronged various polling centres to get accredited.

At Emir Yahaya polling centre, there was large turnout of women who were more in number than men to exercise their civic right.

Hajiya Kande Isa told NAN that “I have been here since 6.30 a.m. waiting for INEC officials because I want to be accredited on time to enable me go back home to continue with my domestic duties’’.

There was  also presence  of security operatives in all the polling centres visited while policemen and military were seen patrolling  the streets .

” Women were out in large numbers awaiting to be accredited,’’ Isa added, saying that sufficient electoral materials were provided by the electoral body for the conduct of the exercise.

Malam Abubakar RIjiya, a presiding  officer at Bariki polling unit, said that all that would be required for the successful conduct of the exercise had been delivered.

” We are on course as far as the exercise is concerned, All we need is patient and understanding among the eligible voters for smooth conduct of the exercise” Rijiya said.
