PDP disowns Finnih’s Elders Council

LAGOS — Governor Babatunde Fashola’s keen competitor in the last governorship election in Lagos State and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Dr. Ade Dosunmu, yesterday, congratulated Fashola on his victory at Tuesday’s election in the state.
Dosunmu in a congratulatory message, said that though Fashola and himself campaigned and contested the poll, that what was important to him was the development of the state and a better welfarism package for the residents.
Dosunmu lauded the people of Lagos State for their supports for him and his party and the tolerance given to him during the campaign and the way and manner they comport themselves during the elections.
He added that his belief “lies in the fact that it is God that appoints whoever He wishes into positions.” He said that his time will come in the near future.
According to him, “the elections have come and gone and with every endeavour, positions have been taken, allegations have been made and several representations made concerning alot of issues. My conviction and position on these matters, however, is that in every situation, the will of the Almighty would always prevail. This gives me the strength to move on.”
Dosumu further said he believed that his party and himself have run “a good campaign to the best of our ability. I wish to put on record that for the first time in recent past, we ran a rancor and violence free campaign in Lagos.
We addressed issues which often times evoked passion and strong sentiments and reactions, but our conviction in the positions taken remain unshaken as we believe that governance should be about the people. Perhaps, if given the opportunity again, we may run it differently, but that is a matter for conjecture as only the Almighty knows tomorrow.”
PDP disowns Finnih’s Elders Council
HOURS after the general elections, a crisis of confidence has hit the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Yesterday, the party disowned “a so-called Elders Council headed by Dr. Abayomi Finnih.”
A statement by the Publicity Secretary, Taofeek Gani, said loyal party members should be aware of the antics of a few “who never worked for the party but now are strategising to widen their political coast.”
Gani said there was nothing like Elders Council in the party’s constitution and therefore, any meeting by group “is illegal.”
According to him, “for the umpteenth time, there is no institution, no committee, ad-hoc or permanent, known as the Elders Council in the PDP’s Constitution. Finnih is just an ordinary member of PDP, nothing more. Even here, we cannot vouch for his loyalty to the party because he and his cohorts never contributed anything at all to PDP campaign in Lagos in the concluded elections.”
“They were never seen during the various elections, right from the National Assembly to the presidential, governorship and House of Assembly. We know some of these so_called party leaders who collected millions of naira mobilisation money on the pretence of working for the governorship candidate of the party.
“But what did they do? They stayed at home without spending a kobo. Instead, they instigated their peripheral cohorts to vote for the ACN.
“So, it is misleading, downright mischievous and absolutely nonsensical for Dr Finnih, who never played any role to enhance the fortunes of PDP, to now pretend he can now play any significant role in the future life of our party. Dr Finnih must be a dreamer”.
