Umuahia—Some unidentified gun men have abducted a Reverend Sister and her maid at Ozuabam in Arochukwu local government area of Abia State.
News of the abduction threw the sleepy town into confusion and fear, more so as the incident came at a time the state had been celebrating its liberation from kidnappers and other criminal element that held the state hostage for sometime.
The Reverend Sister, simply indentified as Chikaodi, is of the Daughters of Mary, Mother of Mercy Catholic congregation based at Ozuabam.
Details of the incident were still scanty but the Police in the state confirmed the abduction and said effort was being made to rescue them.
Chikaodi and her maid were said to have been abducted last Thursday on their way to Ohafia by the gunmen who were said to have blocked them with their vehicle, a Toyota car, and took them away to an unknown place.
According to a resident of the area,“since the incident happened, our people have been living in constant fear. We hope the era of kidnapping is not back in the state.
“It is high time the government came to the rescue of the indigenes by deploying security agents in the area. Imagine, people kidnapping a reverend sister, it is sacrilegious.”
Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna,ASP, confirmed the incident. Ogbonna explained that the kidnappers abducted the Reverend Sister and her maid about 10am last Thursday and took them to an unknown destination.
He, however, disclosed that the incident was under investigation, and expressed hope that they would be rescued and the abductors captured.
