MAKURDI – PRESIDENTIAL election in Benue State did not go without an incident as no fewer than nine corps members and ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, were abducted by unknown gunmen.
The corps members were abducted in Gwer West local government area of the state during the presidential election.
Briefing newsmen on the incident, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Alhaji Nasir Ayilara said the youth corps members were kidnapped at three polling units of the council on their way to conduct election in the area.
Ayilara said that the ad-hoc staff were later released unharmed though without the election materials.
The REC, however maintained that the incident did not in any way invalidate the election and results collated from the area as the commission took steps to ensure that the snatched materials did not find its way into the hands of voters.
