Gombe – The Director of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, in Gombe State, Mr Ado Solomon, has urged physically-challenged persons to use the April polls to correct their seeming long neglect.
Solomon, who addressed the physically-challenged persons in Gombe, Sunday, as part of NOA’s sensitisation, said as people who earned their living through alms begging, they should endeavour to use their votes to bring a change to their situation.
He said the April elections would provide them the ample opportunity to elect credible leaders who they believed could listen to their plights and yearnings after years of neglect.
“You have been complaining of neglect and this is an opportunity to elect whoever you think will best protect your interest. I am urging all of you to come out and vote on election days.
“For those of you who had to move round to solicit for alms for survival, I call on you to sacrifice election days and exercise your franchise,” he advised the beggars.
The Chairman of Persons with Disability in Gombe, Alhaji Umaru Goro, thanked the director for his advice, and gave the assurance that his members would make full use of their voting rights.
Goro, however, lamented that in spite of the number of physically-challenged persons in the country, successive governments had never harkened to their pleas for effective protection.
He said the April elections would provide them the opportunity to correct the anomaly through their votes.
