Police rescue two kidnapped children, display N5m out of N11m ransom

DELTA State Police Commissioner, Mamman Tsafe, Tuesday, paraded a native doctor, his 15-year-old daughter and four others for allegedly kidnapping two children of the chairman of Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association in Delta State.

Police also showed to members of the press, the two children that were rescued through the efforts of the anti-terrorists squad.

But while the father of the two rescued children, Mr. Godstime Emaghegbe, who is also the Chairman of Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association, claimed that he paid N11 million ransom to the kidnappers, police displayed only N5million in N500 notes as ransom recovered from the abductors.

Fielding questions from newsmen, on the controversy over the actual amount of money paid and the sum recovered, the Delta CP said, “I don’t like the controversy. But probably when we do further investigations, the truth will actually emerge.  But have you (newsmen) seen the N5m? That is the money we recovered. The most important thing here is that the children were rescued.”
