Abuja -The Ethiopian national team coach Ifenemeonye Onuora,Sunday described their 0-4 loss to Nigeria in Abuja as `ridiculous,’ having prepared well for the match.
The Super Eagles defeated the Walyas Antelopes in a 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier at the Abuja National Stadium after out shining the visitors in every department of the game.
Peter Utaka and substitute Ikechukwu Uche each scored a brace in the match during which observers believed the Eagles would have scored more goals.
Speaking after the game, Onuora, a Nigerian, said the match turned out a disappointment for his team after all their expectations.
“This is the most ridiculous thing we have ever seen. The boys worked so hard to get a good result from this game, only to now have a disappointing outing.
“I am sure our football association will be asking us questions, because this is our best team as there are no players left behind that should have made the difference,’’ he said.
The coach, however, said the most disappointing aspect of the game was that the team could not hold their own after conceding an early goal.
“It was really disappointing to concede a goal early, but we picked ourselves up thereafter to fight back. Unfortunately we couldn’t keep up with the pace later on,’’ he said.
Onuora said the quality of the Super Eagles players had a telling effect on the match.
“There was no way we could have kept it up. We have only one foreign-based player, and the Eagles have so many of such, especially good ones with experience in the English Premier League and the Italian Serie A,’’ he said.
Utaka scored after 35 seconds and later in the 54th minute, while Uche scored in the 79th and 90th minutes.
The win leaves Nigeria with six points from three matches, placing the Eagles in second place behind Guinea in Group B, with Ethiopia in third place with three points from same number of matches
