ABUJA-Over 300 protesters, yesterday, stormed the Abuja division of the Federal High Court, asking Justice Abdul Kafarati to disqualify himself from the current legal matter between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the  Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, in Ogun State.

The group which besieged the court premises with several placards, subsequently proceeded to the National Judicial Council, NJC, to submit a four-paged petition they wrote against the Judge, to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu.

Among the groups that protested under the aegis of the Coalition Against Annulment, CANNU, were the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, the PPN, Centre for Ethics Democracy and Development, CEDAD, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, and Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Group, COSEG.

In the petition, the group urged the CJN to “investigate why all matters involving the PDP in Ogun State always have the special attention of Justice Abdul Kafarati.

“Investigate for review, the injunction granted by Justice Kafarati, which led to the eventual judgment of March 3, 2011.

“Reassign and direct appropriately, the current legal matter between the PDP, Ogun State and PPN, in line with the directive of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja that all election matters should be treated in states where they originated, while putting the trust of our people in Ogun State in your hands for urgent intervention and immediate redress of this perceived injustice and for the preservation of the integrity of the judiciary and restore the confidence of Nigerians in the Judiciary as an important arm of our government which is expected to serve as the last hope of the common man”.
