Man, 30, arraigned for stealing car, laptop

Police in Abuja have arraigned one Awolu Uba before an Abuja magistrate court for allegedly stealing one Toyota Corolla car and a laptop, all valued at about N3.9m

Uba, 30, with others now at large, reportedly connived together on  December 28, 2010 to carry out the theft.

He was charged for conspiracy and theft contrary to section 97(1) and 286 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Mr Boniface Asoguwa told the court that “the accused at No. 24 Agade Street, Wuse 11, Abuja did conspire among yourselves and stole one Toyota Corolla car with registration number GC 134 ABC valued at N3.8m and one Toshiba laptop valued at N110, 000, all property of Tacorr Energy Ltd.”  However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him by the police.

Magistrate Aliyu Shafa granted the accused bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties each in like sum. The sureties, according to the court, must be reliable, have a fixed address and reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The matter was adjourned till May 18, for hearing.

Meanwhile, One Chukwudi Uzochukwu, 26, has been docked before an Abuja magistrate court for robbing one Uba Chikere of his nokia handset, digital camera and the sum of N55, 000 cash.

The police arraigned the accused on a two count-charge of criminal conspiracy and robbery contrary to section 97(1) and 298 of the penal code law.

Police prosecutor, Boniface Asogwa told the court that the accused conspired with others now at large to rob the complainant on February 3.
