‘Geregu power plant to generate 414MW daily from May’

Geregu (Kogi) – The Geregu Power generating plant in Ajaokuta, Kogi, is expected to attain full capacity of 414 megawatts per day in May to boost the country’s electricity supply.

The Head of the Station of the plant, Mr Monima Stanley-Idum, said in Ajaokuta, Tuesday that two units of the plant, GT12 and GT13 had been linked to the national grid.

He said that the plant was capable to generate between 277MW and 285MW daily depending on the atmospheric temperature.

The third unit, GT11, Stanley-Idum said, was currently undergoing routine maintenance, adding that it would be put to use before the end of March.

He expressed the hope that by April 2011, an average maximum generation of 351.9MW would be fed to the National Grid on a daily basis.

Stanley-Idum identified under-funding as one of the factors affecting the effective maintenance and infrastructure development at the plant.

He stressed the need for more funding to ensure timely completion and supply of equipment to the maintenance workshop.
