ENUGU-DEPUTY President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has urged gubernatorial candidates from Enugu North senatorial zone of the state to respect the zoning formula for the office of governor and wait for their turn in 2015.
Ekweremadu, who had been repeatedly associated as a gubernatorial hopeful, has equally assured gubernatorial hopefuls from Enugu North that he would not contest for the office in 2015 as his own contribution towards realising the emergence of a governor of the state from Enugu North.
He spoke yesterday while on a whistle-stop visit to traditional rulers in his Enugu West zone as part of his consultation with opinion leaders in the zone, a statement from his Media Adviser, Paul Odenyi, deposed yesterday.
The Deputy Senate President, who is the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Enugu West zone, said the open contest for the gubernatorial slot would destroy the zoning formula in the state.
Removing himself from the 2015 gubernatorial contest, Ekweremadu, however, warned political stakeholders from Enugu North that he would recant his stand and throw his weight behind possible gubernatorial candidates from his Awgu federal constituency, if his advice was not taken by Enugu gubernatorial candidates.
