Army set to police Rivers creeks during April polls

Nigerian Army has expressed its readiness to effectively man the creeks and other parts of Rivers State during the coming April polls.

Commander, Port Harcourt Army Barracks, Brigadier General Tukuru Burata, who spoke at the end of the 29 BN Sand Model exercise at the barracks, said the Army already has enough troop on ground to assist in security matters during the elections.

He explained that the sand model exercise was part of preparing the soldiers for security related matters. According to him, it is a war gaming process designed to evaluate performance of soldiers using fictitious settings. “In essence, it is about training to develop our human capacity to meet probable situations in theatres where troops may be deployed.”

Expressing satisfaction with the performance of the soldiers during the exercise, he said it was necessary so as to keep them fit for all situations.
