Academic, non-academic staff of 3 institutions to go on strike

Katsina – Academic and non-Academic staff of three tertiary institutions in Katsina Sate are to proceed on a three-day warning strike on March 15.

The institutions are Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-ma, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina and Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies, Daura in Katsina State.

This was contained in a statement issued in Katsina on Thursday, jointly signed by the Chairmen and Secretaries of the unions, Aliyu Abubakar, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Tukur Dahiru, Muktar El-Kasim, Sule Sale and Hamisu Umar, respectively.

The statement said that the warning strike became necessary due to the state government’s failure to pay their three months salary arrears.

“In spite of the fact that the unions has been polite in pursuance of the rights of their members, the state government could not pay the one month bonus salary at the expense of the three months arrears as recommended by the negotiation committee,” it said.

It said the unions had no option than to direct their members to embark on the warning strike, since all efforts to make the state government to fulfill its promise had failed.

The statement appealed to all members of the unions to continue to exercise patience and be law-abiding during the struggle.
