Voters’ registration: Kano declares Friday work-free

As the month long voters registration draws to an end Saturday, Kano state Government has declared Friday as work-free day to enable civil servants and all government functionaries in the state to exploit the last minute chance to secure the voters card.

Spokesman of the Government and Commissioner for Information, Haruna Isa Dederi, told Reporters in Kano  that the public holiday was also to enable public officials mobilise members of their families.

Haruna Dederi further directed private sector in the state especially banks, companies, organizations and business premises to also comply with the work- free order to make it possible for their employees take advantage of the exercise.

The Information chief noted that Shekarau led administration is satisfied with the turnout of eligible citizens for the exercise so far, stressing that failure of the DDC machines, inadequate registration materials and non – arrival of the registration materials on time in many parts of the state has hampered the smooth conduct of the exercise generally in the state.

Sequel to the failure, the state Government therefore appealed to INEC to make sure that areas with faulty DDC machines and insufficient materials are provided duly so as not to defeat the essence of the exercise.

The state government expressed appreciation to stake holders in the state especially the state Emirate council, traditional, civic and religious leaders as well as the media for the relentless effort to mobilize the people to exercise their civic responsibility by obtaining the voter card.

The government called on all the people that are yet to register to take advantage of the additional registration days to obtain their card in view of its importance.
