AKURE—The two Principal Officers of the Ondo State House of Assembly, former Speaker Taofiq Abdusalam and Deputy Speaker Mayowa Akinfolarin, suspended 10 months ago, have been re-admitted into the hallowed Chambers.
Mr. Abdusalam who was the former Speaker and Akinfolarin his Deputy were axed by the Labour Party dominated Assembly following alleged refusal to hand over property of the Assembly after their suspension.
The duo and other principal officers of the House were removed and new officers were elected.
However, last week, the duo were asked to report at the Parliament only for the leadership of the Assembly to later disagree on their re-admission even after visiting the Assembly on three occasions.
Also, there had been intermittent announcements on the State-owned Radio and Television stations that the two officers should appear before the parliamentary session of the House.
Aside the fact that the officers had not received salaries and emoluments throughout the period they were on suspension, their constituencies were not represented on any of the decisions taken on the floor of the Assembly.
The Speaker Samuel Adesina during yesterday’s sitting introduced the former Speaker as Honourable without the prefix of Rt Hon while his Deputy was referred to as Honorable.
Abdusalam and Akinfolarin drew the attention of the House to it and the Speaker noted the omission and said that necessary corrections would be made
