Jonathan utmost beneficiary of N-Delta agitation, says Odje

A Warri-based lawyer, Dr. Akpor Mudiaga-Odje, yesterday, said President Goodluck Jonathan was the utmost beneficiary of the Niger Delta agitation.

Odje who stated this in a chat with newsmen in his Ewreni country home, stressed the need for President  Jonathan to implement the Niger Delta Technical Committee report of Ledum Mitee.

Insisting that implementation of the report was the solution to the problems bedeviling the oil rich region, he said; “the report is fantastic and for the first time, it reviewed all the reports and commissions from Willick’s till date set up to look at the Niger Delta issue.”

On the post amnesty programme for the former militants in the region, Odje said; “the programme may be on course, but it has not been working effectively. The post amnesty programme ought to be reviewed on a quarterly or yearly basis.

“I believe that president  Jonathan is the highest beneficiary of the agitations of the freedom fighters of the Niger Delta and he must reciprocate same by ensuring that everyone who is disarmed is properly taken care of as long as he is from an oil producing area of the Niger Delta,” he added.

According to him; “the region which had contributed immensely to the economic growth of the country was in squalor and endemic poverty. Our youths are unemployed, our mothers and fathers are at home with gas flaring taking its toll on them without environmental safeguard.”
