ABUJA—Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, in a bid to improve the lot of the Nigerian child.
The MoU was signed at NGF’s secretariat in Abuja by Mr. Asishana Okauru, the NGF’s Director-General, on behalf of the Forum, and Suomi Sukai, Country Representative of UNICEF in Nigeria.
The MoU is aimed at establishing partnership between NGF and UNICEF for the promotion of child- friendly governance systems and values, explore opportunities to leverage resources and to translate policies into results for children.
The partnership is also to ensure the recognition and realisation of children’s rights in Nigeria as part of the ongoing efforts towards achieving national development aspirations and the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs.
In terms of scope, the seven-point agreement sets forth the general terms and conditions under which NGF and UNICEF will collaborate to influence government policy agenda for children.
Signing of the MoU with UNICEF marks another milestone for the Governors’ Forum, which has built successful partnerships with a number of organisations, such as Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, UNDP and DFID among others, in the last two years.
