THE Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has awarded contracts for the fencing of seven pilot Truck Parks at Tafa on the Abuja – Kaduna express road, Akinyele in Oyo State, Umuchieze in Abia State and Mararaban Jos near Kaduna.
Each Truck Park will be equipped with conveniences, rest areas, vehicle repair and servicing facilities, filling stations and restaurants, among other facilities conceptualised to meet international standards.
FERMa’s managing director, Engr. Kabiru Abdullahi, who disclosed this in Abuja when received in audience, the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Malam Mohammed Sani-Sidi, said the agency has institutionalised a structure for collaborating with the FRSC and Police who are direct beneficiaries of the Agency’s 58 Road Support Service Centres and Observation Camps located along all major Federal highways nationwide.
Engr. Abdullahi said the Agency is determined to bring indiscriminate parking of trucks on our highways to an end hence the allocation of land for the construction of truck parks in all six Geo-Political Zones in the country.

The NEMA boss urged FERMA to sustain its collaborative efforts with stakeholders, especially the FRSC, the Nigeria Police, NEMA and Labour so as to minimise hazards confronting commuters on the nation’s highways.
