THE Edo State Government has approved the sum of N6billion for the construction of a canal where all the flood waters in Benin City and its metropolis would be channeled to.
The state Governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, who disclosed this, yesterday, at Government House, Benin, when traditional chiefs from the Palace of the Oba of Benin paid him a courtesy visit, said that with the award of the contract, the flooding problem in Benin City would be a thing of the past. He expressed his gratitude to the monarch for his support so far as regards the efforts being made to change the face of the City.
While addressing the Chiefs who endorsed him for another term and assured him of their continuous support to his administration, Governor Oshiomhole said “there is no matter that His Royal Majesty has not shown personal interest in and assisted us with advise.
When people ask how we are able to expand some of the roads and do some of the things we have done, it is purely because His Royal Majesty gave us all the support. So today, we have done all these things without any person taking us to court.
“We cannot ask for more from His Majesty. We remain grateful. I am also happy to inform you sir that the first capital project we paid for this year, we released over N6billion last week for the new canal that we said was going to dredge water, like a modern moat,” he added.
