Jos — There was a bomb scare last night at the the Abuja Students’ Hostels of the University of Jos following the arrest of two young men around the hostel.
The two men were said to have been sighted around afternoon by some students who accosted them and demanded to know their mission in the hostel but they were said to have kept mute.
Hours of interrogation was said to have yielded no fruit as they reportedly refused to answer questions as to their mission, prompting suspicions that they were out for mischief.
It was not clear if they eventually confessed to any wrong doing but anti-bomb experts from the police and State Security Service later went to the hostel in the evening and ordered all the students out and began to a sweep for possible explosive.
President of the Students Union Government (SUG) of the university, Nantok Dashuwar was said to have addressed the students to announce the discovery.
However, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulrahman Akano said his men found no explosive in any of the hostels.
The development created commotion as panic gripped students scampered out of their hostels for fear of explosion. The students, however refused to release the suspects to security men and negotiations were said to be on between the police and the students, leaders last night on the need to do so.
