Boko Haram killings: Borno lawmakers shun office

Killing of notable politicians and security operatives by suspected Boko Haram sect in Maiduguri, yesterday, stalled the state House of Assembly sitting.

The House last sat on January 18, and adjourned for one week but never sat again. Members, including Speaker Modu Goni, have been avoiding office for fear of possible attack by gunmen.

At the resumption of proceedings yesterday, only a few legislators were seen around the vicinity of the House and the Speaker quickly adjourned sitting to Today.

Goni said the adjournment was to enable him to travel to his home town, Malamfatori, to obtain his voter’s card.

Meanwhile, armed police and military men have been deployed to monitor the movement of people in and around the premises of the state House of Assembly.
