THE Chief Chris Uba-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State has expelled the South East zonal chairman of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, over what the party described as his administrative incompetence and default in payment of his dues at his Nnewi Ward 1 for the past 13 months.
But Metuh, in a quick reaction, dismissed his alleged expulsion, saying it was the handiwork of bunch of irresponsible people who were bent on destroying PDP in the zone.
Metuh, who said he was at the zonal meeting of the party, told Vanguard that the main concern of the party was to properly plan its campaign to ensure that it won all the seats during the forthcoming April general elections.
However, in a communiqué issued after a meeting in Awka, the party alleged that it was due to his lack of administrative acumen that almost all the state branches of the party in the South East were enmeshed in crisis.
Before the communiqué was read, officials of the faction of the party at both his Nnewi Ward 1 and the local government had announced that they decided to expel him because he had not been identifying with the party in the past one year, adding that he had consistently failed to pay his dues which qualified him to be a member of the party.
According to them, instead of working hard to unite members of the party, he was busy encouraging disunity in the state branches of PDP.
After the speech of the ward and Nnewi local government chairmen, the state factional chairman, Chief Benji Udeozor, said that having gone through the resolutions of Metu’s Ward and local government executives, they had no choice but to adopt the resolutions.
The communiqué read by Udeozor said: “Consequent upon the receipt of the resolutions namely: Resolution of Otolo Ward I executive committee, Nnewi North LGA and Resolution of Nnewi North LGA executive committee held on January26 and 27, 2011 respectively, both on Olisa Metuh, the state executive committee and stakeholders of PDP, Anambra State hereby adopt both resolutions of Otolo ward I executive committee and Nnewi North LGA executive in compliance with Article 12:37(a) of the PDP constitution.”
“In view of his administrative incompetence, especially in the maladministration of PDP Abia state and PDP Anambra, this meeting has passed a vote of no confidence in Olisa Metuh.
“The state executive is mandated to forward the herein stated resolutions to the national body to take appropriate actions against Olisa Metuh, whose membership has lapsed and whose supposed election is unconstitutional.”
But in his reaction, Metuh dismissed his alleged expulsion, saying it was the handiwork of bunch of irresponsible people who were bent on destroying PDP in the zone.
The zonal chairman, who said he was at the zonal meeting of the party, told Vanguard that the main concern of the party was to properly plan its campaign to ensure that the party won all the seats during the forthcoming April general elections.
According to him, those who claimed to be from his Ward are not members of PDP.
Metuh added that it was one the anomalies that had existed over the years, which the party was fighting to correct.
