ACN youths allege imposition of candidates

By Olasunkanmi Akoni
A group of concerned youths in Agege and Orile Agege Local Government Areas of Lagos State have appealed to the leadership of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, particularly Senator Bola Tinubu to correct the anomalies in the party primaries election, which  produced, allegedly, imposed candidates in Agege Federal Constituency.

They have threatened to institute a court action if nothing was done soon, even as they threatened to vote en masse against ACN in the coming April polls.

In an open letter by 25 members drawn from different Wards and addressed to Tinubu,  the youths alleged that during the party’s primaries were Mr. Samuel Adejare and Obasa Mudashiru emrged as House of Representatives and state Assembly candidates, respectively, were not acceptable to them.

According to the youths, “we the concerned people of Agege and Orile Agege councils wish to register our grievances and appeal to you, concerning the House of Representatives party primary election in Agege Federal Constituency.”

“Many of the so called party leaders that are reaping the dividends of the struggle now were not in the party hierarchy to facilitate your candidature at the primary level; which eventually placed you in the position you are today.

“Regrettably, the impact of democracy at the grassroots which was felt in your 1st tenure between 1999_2003 in Agege is no longer there. Our representative then really brought democracy to the people of Agege through some developmental projects and initiatives. For heavens’ sake where are the likes of Hon. Adebayo Asimiyu, Adelani Fasakin, Comrade Nasiru Olatundun Isiaka Olabode and others?”

The group, led by Prince Bolaji Ogunleye, who also described the two candidates as failures, challenged them to come out and publicly declare their achievements for the past eight years, “if any.!”

They cried out: “We have totally lost confidence in the leadership of the ACN in Agege. The likes of Abanikanda had never given Agege the needed representatives. They are after their selfish interests and pockets. It’s unfortunate that those who were not in the struggle for a stable democracy of the party to survive are now dictating the pace of Agege polity.

“As the Jagaban Borgu and Aare of Ile-Oluji, who has displayed good quality leadership we want you to intervene because the good people of Agege are being oppressed by few leaders of the party…”
