Pandemonium over alleged illegal registration in Delta

PANDEMONIUM broke out at Ogbinbiri, an Ijaw community in Egbema Kingdom, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, yesterday, when the youths of the community discovered that an illegal registration was going on in the area.

President of the community, Rev. Godwin Soroaye told newsmen that the people discovered that some of the indigenes were being registered at Ojugogbenu (Benin River) by some politicians from other ethnic group.

He said, when further investigation was carried out, it was discovered that the said voter register had no unit number (code), no ward number (code) , among others and when the registration officials were confronted, they confessed that they were paid by some top politicians to come to the community to register Ogbinbiri indigenes so  as to beef up the population of their ethnic group.

“When the aggrieved youths brought the registration materials and reported the issue to the chairman of the council and the leader of the legislative arm in the presence of the State Security Service, SSS, JTF and Police, they could not address the issue satisfactorily, but advised that the registration process  be allowed to continue and that Ogbinbiri community should let go.
