Oyo CPC guber candidate accuses PDP of fuelling crisis in opposition parties

IBADAN—The governorship candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, in Oyo State, Mr Bayo Shittu, has alleged that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state was responsible for the hydra-headed crises in other opposition parties.

He made the allegation while speaking with newsmen Monday, saying that the purpose was to make other parties divided till April general elections.

Shittu said the crisis was intended to weaken the opposition as  practised in 2007 when the governorship ticket of the party was given to Professor Taoheed Adedoja.

But the PDP Secretary in the state, Alhaji Bashiru Akanbi, dismmised the allegation with kid gloves, saying it was frivolous, saying “I want to believe that Shittu is not sure of what he is saying. PDP has enough members.

How then can it go and cause problem in parties with fewer members. He is disillusioned. All political parties in Nigeria today have their own problems. Is CPC responsible for the problems in the PDP? Let them carry their own cross. His statement is unfounded.”

Shittu stated that since the plot had been uncovered, it had already failed because the national secretariat of the party had given him the ticket contrary to the wish of the factional Executive led by Mr Muritala Oderinde.

He said, “Today, because the PDP has seen the progressive might of the CPC in Oyo State, they are trying to compromise some CPC leaders to repeat the system they used in 2007. But the national leadership of our party is not deceived with the PDP’s plot to destroy the CPC for its gain in the forthcoming election”.
