The Lagos State Government on Tuesday announced plans to employ over 500 new teachers into the state civil service who are specialised in five core subject areas.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State Princess Adebisi Sosan disclosed this at a joint media briefing at her Alausa, Ikeja office
Sosan, who was accompanied by four members of the state executive council, enumerated the five core subject areas to be English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry adding that the aim is to improve the performance of students in those identified subject areas.
The deputy governor stressed that the measure became necessary following observation that the state government is deficient in the numbers of teachers as well as having few competent hands in those subject areas.
According to Sosan, the state government is providing opportunity to all interested candidates to apply as they will subsequently enlisted for intensive training.
She said: “There will be training exercise for over 5000 successful candidates and later will be absorbed into the state teaching service.
Those to be absorbed will be deployed to run intensive coaching classes on weekends for those sitting for May/June external examinations.
