As Lagos residents joined the rest of the world in celebrating Christmas, the Lagos State Government through the state Waste Management Authority, LAWMA has concluded arrangement with the Private Sector Participant, PSPs operators to ensure a 24 hour evacuation of all refuse that would be generated during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Public Relations Officer of LAWMA, Mrs Folashae Kadiri, who stated this, explained that the measure was part of effort by the authority to sustain the cleaner environment as well as ensure that residents have a dirt free Yuletide celebration and also avoid possible outbreak of waste related diseases.
According to Kadiri, the PSP operators have been mandated to promptly evacuate refuse within 24 hours in partnership with carnival/ street jamz organisers for effective waste disposal.
Presenting the authority’s clean_up plan for the festive season, the image maker assured that every logistics have been put in place to ensure success of the exercise at the end of every party.
Kadiri, stressed that LAWMA officers have also been deployed towards ensuring a maximum performance.
While emphasising on the need for a cleaner environment and type of gift that goes with the season, she implored all big, medium and small scale businesses to give customise 240 litter domestic wheeler bin at subsidized amount as gift away from the conventional gift of hampers usually given during the season.
Reiterating the ban on the use of cart pushers in the state, Kadiri maintained that on no condition must cart pushers be used in the evacuation of waste in the state, stressing that it is not an alternative way of refuse disposal or evacuation
While wishing Lagos residents a healthy Yuletide celebration, she solicited for the cooperation and understanding of members of the public noting that LAWMA can not do it alone.
