Rigging roadmap: Atiku calls for independent inquiry

By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor
The Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation has called for an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the authorship of alleged Election Rigging Manual it claimed was prepared by the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation.

The Atiku Campaign Organisation in a statement, yesterday, called on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the generality of the electorate not to lose focus of the implications of the alleged rigging plan.

The campaign said that such an independent inquiry was necessary to allay fears that had been raised by the controversy surrounding the “Rigging Manual.”

The Atiku Campaign had last week released what it claimed to be a road map for rigging which, it claimed, had been prepared by the Jonathan/Sambo campaign organisation to gain the advantage in the forthcoming presidential election.

The Campaign Organisation said it was calling for the inquiry because the credibility crisis raised by the document could impact negatively on the 2011 elections.

“The document is a throwback to the era of garrison politics. The content of the document, which outlines strategies to compromise the Judiciary, INEC, the Police and Media, should bother every Nigerian who is desirous of credible elections and good governance in the country.

“We should not fold our arms when a candidate in an election outlines plans to use the Police Service Commission to compromise the Police. We should not fold our arms when a candidate outlines how he is going to compromise the Judiciary for election purposes,” the group said.
