FIVE persons, including a lady, have been apprehended by the Police in Ondo State over the kidnap of a 65-year-old grand mother, Madam Juliana Ogunleye.

Four gunmen had invaded her residence at about 7 p.m. at Oluwatuyi in Akure metropolis last month while playing with her grand children.

Police sources informed Vanguard in Akure that the suspects are undergoing interrogation at the Police headquarters.

Two of the suspects were reportedly picked up at different locations in Akure metropolis after which other were arrested following the confession of the two earlier arrested.

Speaking with Vanguard in Akure,  image maker of the Command, Adeniran Aremu confirmed that “some of the kidnappers have been arrested.”

Aremu declined further information that, according to him, may jeopardise the ongoing investigation. He, however assured the people of the state that the culprits would be brought to book and that those still at large would be smoked out.

Madam Ogunleye was kidnapped and held captive by her abductors for 16 days before she was left off the hook.

The development led to a strike by medical doctors in the state who protested the kidnap of the wife of one of them.

When she was to be released, the abductors called the family members early in the morning to pick their mother along Ado-Ekiti Expressway in Akure.

She was set free by her abductors at about 5.30 a.m. and dumped along the expressway after the family  was could not raise the N30 million ransom they demanded.

But Vanguard learnt that some ransom was actually paid before the grand mother was released by her abductors.

However, one of her children, Ayo Ogunleye said the people put a call to one of their uncles early in the morning to come and pick their mother since they failed to pay the ransom demanded.

According to him the, “kidnappers just called us to go and pick our mother, the voice said since we have refused to pay the N50 million ransom, it shows that our mother is worthless that we should go and pick her.”
