The recent El Clasico, between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, penultimate Monday, did not just bring pain on Real Madrid and its fans world wild as they lost five goals to none,  but it also brought sorrow to members of Oturu family in Lagos, Nigeria.

They lost the bread winner of the family, Vincent (45), to the cold hands of death after he went to confront their neighbors who allegedly attacked his first son, Martins, while he was on his way home from a viewing center, where he had gone to  watch  the El Clasico Match.

Martins (25) was reportedly ambushed very close to their Ogubandi Street, Cement bus Stop, Dopemu in Agege area, by four young men that night, and given a beaten of his life.. His mobile phone, some money and an ATM card were forcefully taken from him.   His attackers, whom  he identified as Nuru, Kazeem and Azeezs, who  were residents of a nearby street, had spotted him at the viewing center and after a little argument, they decided to attack him on his away home.

The 200-level, student of The Polytechnic Ife, Osun State told Crime Alert that he made several efforts to retrieve his property from the boys to no avail before he reported the issue to the head of Landlord Association in their area, Baba Ope  and one Iyalabo, who is also a landlord and  they promised to look into the issue.

Martins: Lost father to attackers.

Ironically, his father, Vincent Oturu, who was an Erector at the NAIRDA Electro Mechanical Company, Victoria Island, Lagos, was not at home when the incident occurred.  When he got home the next day to receive news of his son’s attack, he felt very unhappy and proceeded to the homes of the attackers to know why they humiliated his son.  Sources said as soon as he got to their compound, he confronted their father and as he was discussing the issue with him, the same group of boys pounced on him and beat him up mercilessly.

He was also allegedly stabbed severally before he was thrown into a big gutter in front of their house. around the scene watch in sympathy as the man was being drowned inside the filthy dirty water from the gutter. Some other ran away to alerted his children and brought them down to the scene, when they saw their father dying slowly inside the gutter.

Narrating the circumstances that led to the tragic death of his father in tears, Martin told Crime Alert, “I went after my father because I saw him jerking like he was going to die and I could not wait a minute any longer other than to save him. I dragged him out, but he was panting heavily. Blood was also gushing out from his wounds and Alhaji and his children were pouring abuses and all manner of obscenities on him.

My younger brother , who could not hold on to himself got agitated and  went after the one that stabbed my father, but got stabbed by Azeez from behind. They openly boasted that nothing would happen to them and they will kill any one of us that get closer to them.

“At that point, I managed to carry my father out of the gutter.  I then took him home.  People suggested that we should go to the police and lodge a formal report and my dad who was in excruciating pains while blood was gushing out from his wound, consented.

The police took our report and promised to look into the matter. Then, we took our father to a nearby hospital where the doctor gave him first aid to stop the bleeding, While in the hospital, we discovered that his health was deteriorating and we decided to take him to the General Hospital in Ikeja.  Unfortunately, he gave up the ghost on our way to the hospital.  The doctors checked and confirmed he was dead”.

Doctor, at the Ikeja General Hospital, who craved for anonymity told Crime Alert that the  secondary cause of  death was Hypertensive heart , which he  referred to  as heart problems that could occur because of high blood pressure.   These problems includes thickening of the heart muscle, which he said, occurred when late Mr. Vincent was been beaten.

Martins, also bemoaned the fate that befell the family of five stating that their father’s death would bring untold hardship to members of the family.   He also expressed fears that the police could get compromised and allow the case go the wrong away. “ I am the first son and  I have younger siblings who are still in school and I am also in school. My mother is a poor house wife who depend solely on my father.

Now that he is gone, I wonder who will  take care of us.  We don’t have money and this Alhaji and his children are rich. and they have been making  efforts to release Dotu the only person the police arrested and his other brothers are currently at large.   We need  justice  and we don’t have enough money to get one. I am pleading to the police not to allow this case go the wrong way.” he lamented.
