Federal legislators don’t receive cash for constituency projects, says Reyenieju

By Daniel Gumm
A MEMBER representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju, has called on Nigerians to be watchful of those who are making sinister moves to undermine the country’s nascent democracy by slandering the institution of the National Assembly.

He said such people were “equally spreading false information orchestrated to tarnish the collective and individual reputations of members of this critical arm of  liberal democracy in Nigeria.”

Speaking to members of the Warri Federal Constituency Women, who called on him to get clarification on the raging controversy over the issue of ‘constituency projects’,  Reyenieju said,  Nigerians should be concerned about the present situation whereby “falsehood is deliberately being given false legitimacy to the effect that members of the National Assembly are falsely being accused of collecting the budgeted funds for their respective constituency projects.”

He said “such information can only emanate from those with diseased brains, and ultra-evil and demonic hearts. The truth is that we are requested to suggest projects within certain cash range and suggest the name of our personal staff in our respective constituency offices whom the Millennium Develoment Goals, MDGs, office that handles these projects will be dealing with.

“This is the extent to which I am involved in anything about issue of constituency project,” he said.

Earlier in her address, the group leader, Mrs Esther Okotie-Eboh expressed the concern of the group over the controversy, adding: “They decided to discuss with the lawmaker so as to get a first hand information given the confidence they have on him.”
