The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been advised to encourage more women to seek elective positions in the country.
The advice was given by Ms Oghale Ovutowe Osiga, a female aspirant for the House of Representatives representing Isoko Federal constituency while speaking with newsmen in Warri.
She noted that the party should as a matter of policy support more women to hold elective positions as well as appoint more women as ministers and commissioners in fulfilment of the United Nations declaration on affirmative action.
Ms Osiga said the time has come for women to take the initiative and work towards supporting one another to seek elective positions rather being used as praise singers and dancers at rallies.
She commended the effort of Nigeria’s first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan for leading the Women for Change Initiative which has increased political awareness among women in the country, adding that the time has come for Nigerians to support the emergence of a female president in the future.
Ms Osiga used the interactive session to commend the women of Isoko Federal Constituency for supporting her aspiration and called on them to join the one man one vote campaign which will make their votes count at the polls.
She stated that in all the meetings she has had with the women, they have continued to support the call for women to be given a chance.
