CONGRATULATORY messages have been pouring in for the newly elected President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, the apex socio-cultural group of the Urhobo ethnic nationality in Delta State, Major-General Patrick Aziza (rtd).
He succeeded the first civilian Governor of Delta State, Olorogun Felix Ibru as UPU leader. In his congratulatory message, an Urhobo leader, Prof. Simon Umukoro said, “I congratulate our newly elected President General of UPU, Major-Gen. Aziza on the success of this year’s Annual Urhobo National Congress and election of officers of UPU. It is my fervent hope that God will use you and your team to redress the injustice meted on Urhobo nation in recent times.”
On her part, Dr. Janet Oyubu said, “I congratulate the elected President General of UPU, Aziza. Your election has come at a most opportune time when Urhobo nation is looking up to the UPU to redirect Urhobo people from the position of weakness to the position of strength. We thank God for the success of the election and swearing-in ceremony.”
Also, president-general of Ughelli Descendants Union, Chief Kenneth Iwhewhe, asserted, “I heartily congratulate our newly elected President General of UPU, Major Gen. Patrick Newton Aziza on the resounding success of this year’s Annual Urhobo National Congress and election of officers of the UPU.”
