WORKERS in the nation’s financial sector, weekend, demanded the nationalization of the rescued banks in the country, arguing that banks and other financial institutions would do well if nationalized as done in other economies.
Under the aegis of the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, ASSBIFI, the workers, at their seventh National Delegates’ Conference, said this could be done under proper control and right policy framework by the regulatory authorities.
Outgoing National president of the association, Comrade Adeshina Lasisi who spoke while addressing the delegates and other guests, said the association “strongly contests the position of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in midwiving the sale of some the banks which were granted bailout funds during their period of distress.”
Comrade Lasisi said that selling the banks to foreign investors could not be the solution.
