Former Eagles’ stars Emmanuel Amunike and Peter Rufai are front runners in the race by ex-internationals to assist Coach Samson Siasia.
It was gathered from competent sources that Amuneke has been favoured as assistant coach while Rufai will take the role of goalkeeper’s trainer. The duo are among the list of former players who are jostling to join the national team. Others include Henry Nwosu and Sylvanus Okpalla.
Some of the candidates have started making contacts with the Nigeria Football Federation technical committee with a view to landing the job to be Siasia’s assistant.
However, Chairman of the technical committee, Chris Green said that the NFF was not in a hurry to name a Nigerian assistant for Siasia.
“We have had names being thrown around. But the truth of the matter is that the NFF has not yet listed any candidate.
“When the time comes, surely Nigerians will know who the assistant coaches are,” said Barrister Green.
Siasia was appointed Eagles coach on November 4 and opted for Dutchman Simon Kalika who was with him in all his assignments with the national teams.
