Following last weekend’s interdiction of an aircraft ferrying explosives from Yemen to the United States in Europe, Federal Government yesterday issued a directive instructing full scale screening of all cargoes leaving the country for the U.S. via Europe.
It also instructed that all cargoes entering the country from countries of security concern must also be subjected to the same level of screening.
The directive was sent to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, all security agencies at airports cross the country, ground handlers like the Skyway Aviation Handling Company of Nigeria, SAHCOL, Nigerian Aviation Company Plc, NAHCo, airlines, airport operators, among others.
It indicated that the cargoes would be subjected to explosive detecting system, aside from the normal x-ray screening machine.
Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Dr. Harold Demuren, issued the directive.
