Birnin Kebbi — The traditional ruler of Gesse residential quarters in Birnin Kebbi, Ahaji Mohammed Lawal, has said that suspected criminals posing as beggars are threatening the peace of the area.
He said that some strange persons pretending to be beggars in the area had been discovered to be criminals and that he was, therefore, placing authorities and residents on alert.
Lawal told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Monday that the influx of people who pretend to be beggars had forced residents to be extravigilant. He warned the people to beware of innocent looking people, who pretend to be beggars.
Said he: “One female, who escaped apprehension by residents, was discovered to be a non-resident and had made attempt to abduct a child”.
Lawal promised to work with security agencies to apprehend the criminals.
“Only recently, a man was found hiding in our area with an abducted boy and since then, we became alert, especially over those who pose as beggars,” he said.
The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Birnin Kebbi, Mr. Dawud Muhammad, has assured that there would be police patrols in locations identified as hideouts of criminals. He said the Police Command would not relent in sustaining the low crime rate in the state.
