Agricultural stakeholders have appealed to governments at all levels to increase their investments in agriculture and provide more subsidy for farmers. Mr Mabinuori Adeleke, the National Vice-President, Association of Small Scale Agro Producers in Nigeria, South-West Zone, made the appeal at a rally on Wednesday in Ijebu-Ode, to mark the 2010 World Food Day.
Adeleke said priority should be accorded agriculture, by the stake holders, in the efforts to ensure food security in the country.
“Most Nigerians can no longer boast of three daily square meals a day and that should not be the case. What is coming out of the farm is no longer adequate and the purchasing power of the people is becoming low due to the relegation of agriculture to the back ground.
He said the essence of the rally was to arouse government consciousness on the need to improve its investment in agriculture.
