Oshiomhole asks Police to probe killing at ACN registration centre

BENIN—EDO State Governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, has directed the Edo State Police Command to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the killing of one person at Ora Ward in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of the state, during the membership registration exercise of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, recently.

The Governor, also directed the police authorities to deal    ruthlessly with anyone found with gun or any dangerous weapons in respective of their social or political affiliation.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria,  in Benin, yesterday, Oshiomhole, directed  the Police and the State Security Service, SSS,  to work together to ensure that the perpetrators of the incident were brought to book.

The Governor also expressed his heart felt condolence to the famil y of victim of the unfortunate incident and assured the people that those responsible for the dastardly act would be made to face the music.

It will be recalled that the membership registration exercise of the party at the council headquarters, Iguobazuwa and Ora Ward were marred with violence as guns and other dangerous weapons were employed by the different factions within the party in the area to undo each other.

It was learnt that as soon as the exercise took off, there was violence  and in the process, a vehicle was shot and the driver died on the spot while three other persons riding in the vehicle sustained various degrees of injuries.

Apart from the person, who  was killed during the violence, which rocked the membership registration, a stray bullet was said to have hit a school girl at Ora village, just as three other persons, who sustained various injuries during the fracas are still receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospitals.
