Umuahia—The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu, and leader of the joint military task force deployed to Abia State to wipe out kidnappers and other criminals, Major-General Sarikin Yaki Bello, has appealed to Aba residents and the city’s business community to cooperate with his men who are now in the state to restore sanity in Aba and its environs.

Bello, who spoke weekend when he and the Inspector-General of Police met with Aba business community, assured them that the Joint Military Task Force would  establish operational centres in the area where people could send in meaningful information that would assist them in their operations.

Bello, who just resumed duties in Enugu from where he was dispatched for this assignment in Abia, said his men were working round the clock to ensure that safety of lives and properties of residents were safeguarded.

He also urged the hoodlums terrorizing Aba and the entire Abia State to turn a new leaf and surrender their arms and ammunitions or the task force would go after them.

“Don’t leave Aba, be resilient. If you continue to leave this city, these hoodlums will claim victory,” he charged Aba residents.

He assured that the JTF and police would restore peace in Aba in no distant time.
In his reaction,  President, Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ACCIMA, Chief Azuka Alagwu, observed that the kidnappers had their hideouts in the villages and urged the JTF to enter into the villages and fish them out.

“It is our opinion that the army should enter into the villages to smoke out the hoodlums from their hideouts and take them head-on.

“We are aware that these hoodlums operate from their camps in the villages and that’s where they should be met.

“We have already seen that the soldiers that have arrived Aba are fully equipped with superior arms and ammunitions, communication equipment and military vehicles. This gives us confidence,” Alagwu said.
