Yenagoa— Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital has been given a facelift with security reinforced in and around the city, ahead of the weekend visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the state.

The visit, slated for Friday and Saturday,  October 22 and 23, 2010, will be the first official visit of Jonathan to the state since his elevation as the substantive President in the wake of the demise of the former President, Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua.

This reporter, who went round town, observed the new looks along the major highways as Bayelsans were seen painting the kerbs on the roads.

Colourful life size billboards bearing the images of President Jonathan and Governor Sylva on one hand and those of Dame Patience Jonathan and Mrs. Alanyingi Sylva had been mounted at strategic locations on the Mbiama-Yenagoa Road.

Interestingly, the giant billboards,  heralding Jonathan to the state in the various dialect of the Ijaw language, were erected by the pro Sylva Concerned Bayelsans for Chief Timipre Sylva and Coordinated by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Richard.

The Creek Haven Drive (Government House), which had been uneven, is being asphalted to create a smooth drive way, while the structures housing the office of the Deputy Governor, and the fence of the Government House Clinic, were being given a face-lift.

The President while in the state would among others, commission and inspect projects completed by the Sylva administration.

The roads earmarked for commissioning Vanguard learnt include Azikoro Road, Otuoke Road, Samphino Road, Custom Road, Dimrose Road, Faith Comprehensive School Road, NIIT Road, Etegwe Primary School Road, Bridge/Mechanic Road, Glory Drive and BSTV Road, all in Yenagoa.

It was also learnt that Jonathan would undertake an inspection tour of projects including, the Judiciary Complex, Imiringi Gas Turbine, Otuoke Vocational Health Centre, the South_South Campus of Nigerian Law School, Agudama_Epie, Yenagoa and the Brass LNG in Brass.

The Diete_Koki Memorial Hospital, Opolo_Yenagoa, the Ogbia regional water scheme, the Nembe regional water scheme, Plastic Factory at Elebele, Ogbia, Bayelsa State Television (BSTV), Atlantic Beach Resort, Okpoama, Brass Local Government Area, transformers and vehicles would also be commissioned.
