Leading opposition politicians under the banner of the Patriotic Leaders Front of Nigeria, PLFN, led by Chief Anthony Enahoro, yesterday, restated their ambition of forging a strong progressive alliance, to checkmate the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the 2011 polls.
Leaders of the front, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Alhaji Rasheed Shitta-Bey and Prof. Pat Utomi, told newsmen in Lagos, Tuesday, that they were almost through with tinkering with the progressive alternative.
They said a parley of progressives drawn from 25 political parties would meet in Abuja on October 28, “to harmonise with similar platforms and groups, such as Coalition for New Nigeria, CNN, etc, to set up a broad structure to prosecute the noble agenda of the patriotic democrats for the nation.”
They were upbeat that this time around a coalition against a ruling party in Nigeria will work out.
This is coming as Utomi shelved declaration of his presidential ambition until the progressive arrangement had been worked out.
He said: “We are out to put Nigeria first before our ambition.”
