IBADAN—AS the battle for the Agodi Government House in 2011 continues, the ex-Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Gbolarumi Azeem has told his former boss, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala to be getting ready to leave the office.

This came as it became evident that his ambition to unseat the incumbent governor through democratic means has started claiming casualty.

The Chairman, Ibadan North Local Government who was in attendance at the declaration of his governorship ambition is now facing hell in his council as some councillors had ganged up to impeach him.

The former deputy governor said someone behind the curtains must have been using them to achieve his selfish goal.

Akala dismisses Gbolarumi guber ambition

But replying him, Akala who spoke through his Special Adviser on Public Communication, Prince Dotun Oyelade said the statement was statistically and constitutionally wrong.

According to him, Gbolarumi should not insult our people in the state that his only qualification is being an Ibadan man.

“The ugly treatment meted out to him after his so-called declaration showed that he is not a favourite candidate. Akala will run and win with the votes of the entire people in the state who are proud of his achievements.”

Gbolarumi, while speaking with newsmen in his residence at Bodija yesterday, said the governor had destroyed the Adedibu political structure that brought him to limelight.

Accusing him of accepting only 20 per cent of the followers of the dead politician in the appointment of political office holders in the state, he said the attitude was tantamount to gross betrayal of the man who made him what he is today.

He therefore told Akala not to waste time campaigning for ‘third term’ as no previous governor had ever achieved the feat.

One of the close associates to Chief Lamidi Adedibu said though he did not have any grudge with the governor who he calls his brother, he explained that the state had suffered during his government.

He joined the main opponents in the state led by Senator Lekan Balogun, saying there is no State Executive of the PDP in the state.

“As at now, there is no state executive of the party in the state. We are just trying to build another foundation. The structure that Governor used to climb to the exalted position has been destroyed.”

“Akala has not wronged me but he has wronged the people of the state. When you seek the opinions of major stakeholders in the state such as royal fathers and politicians, they would tell you that Akala has not done well. Look at what he did to Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

He visited a chief under his domain more than three times without paying homage to the paramount ruler. Again, he was giving recognition to the chief, claiming he is another king in Oyo”, Gbolarumi said.

Describing the failure of President Goodluck Jonathan to visit the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana as insult of the highest order, he said the Ibadan indigenes felt insulted by the action.
