Adeoti, Ekiti Dep Speaker laid to rest amidst tears

ADO-EKITI—Tears were flowing uncontrollably from the eyes of relations, friends and other sympathizers at Otun Ekiti yesterday when the remains of the former Deputy Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Saliu Adeoti was committed to mother earth.

Even, the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi had to cut short his tour from Abuja, to pay his last respect to the departed hero, could not control his emotion as he wept profusely beside the grave of the former lawmaker.
Adeoti died at the University Teaching  Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State last Wednesday after a brief illness.

His demise came just at a time when his 24 other members of the House are on a tour to Germany for legislative matters, except the deceased and his blossom friend, Mr Gbenga Odebunmi, who had to stay back and stood by the deceased at the hospital bed until he breathe his last.

Adeoti’s body was brought into the town at about 11.50am in a convoy of vehicles, where he was received by members of his family, relations  and scores of Islamic clerics, led by the State Missioner, Alhaji Liad Adebayo and and President League of Imams and Alfas in the state, Alhaji Jamiu Kewulere.

His body was lowered into the grave by Islamic faithful at about 12.55pm amidst the chanting of Allah Akbaru, meaning that  God is Great.

Earlier  in the day , a  one – hour special valedictory session was held in his honour at the state House of Assembly which was attended by past Lawmaker, sympathizers and members of various political parties in the State.

The session was also graced    by the number two citizen of the state , Mrs Funmi Adunni Olayinka and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Owolabi.

Speaking while performing the Islamic rites in company of six other Imams from Igogo, Ilawe, Otun, Ikere, Aaye and Ido Ekiti and other Islamists in the town and beyond, Alhaji  Adebayo urged sympathizers to take a cue from the life of the deceased, saying he lived an exemplary life that would ever remain indelible in the minds of the people and the entire state.

The cleric noted that the deceased had did his best to his people and the state that his name would be recorded in gold, asked other Muslim brothers to emulate his sterling qualities.

While the state governor, Dr Fayemi , who was at the burial ceremony in company of some party members , including his wife, Mrs Bisi Fayemi, described the late Adeoti as a dependable and reliable war General who fought gallantly well to enthrone democracy in the state.

,His words’’ Adeoti lived and died  for the truth, but it a matter of regret that he had to die at his prime  and a time his experience is needed most to champion the course of the truth, justice, honesty and fairplay in the State.

“Adeoti is an indefatigable field marshal and a people’s  General, who fought relentlessly, tenaciously, unflinchingly, and tirelessly to ensure that the course of justice is not perverted in Ekiti State and to ensure that Ekiti get a way to freedom.

“He lived a life that confirmed the fact that no matter how young you are when you die after coming to this sinful world that you can still make your mark. So, what  do you want to be known for, is it good or bad?”, Fayemi asked the mourners.

At the  special session  held in the Assembly, the former Governor in the old Ondo State, Evang Bamidele Olumilua, former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon  Karounwi Oladapo, who also doubles as the Action Congress

Parliamentary Liaison Officer in the House, former members of the Assembly, Hons Ademola Atobaje,  Bayo Idowu,  Tope Ademiluyi , who also acted as the Speaker of the Assembly  in 2007 and ACN Chairman in the State, Jide Awe lauded the virtues of the former Deputy Speaker
