2011 poll: Nigerians in Diaspora task PDP on selection of candidates

By Emma Amaize

WARRI – NIGERIANS in Diaspora under the auspices of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GEJ, 2011 Diaspora Support Group, Europe chapter, have called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to implement to the letter, its recent announcement that only corrupt-free candidates without any illegal baggage would be nominated in the party’s primaries as standard-bearers for the various political offices in the next elections.

Chairman of the group, Chief Lambert Igboanugo, in an online interview with Vanguard, today, after its general assembly in The Netherlands said, “Good governance begins with having the right and corrupt- free candidates without corrupt antecedents or any illegal baggage that will embarrass the party and by extension, the Nigerian polity”

“So, PDP delegates from the ward to the federal level must display superlative degree of internal party democracy and honesty in electing their delegates for the forthcoming primaries at all level”.

“It is important we maintain a high level of justification for the candidates that are to be thrown up for the subsequent elections, we conscientiously believe that if Ghana can do it, we will do it better”, he stated.

He said, “The GDSGE believes that it is PDP that has the best political structure in Nigeria and cannot afford to fail Nigerians by bringing in candidates who may have one petition or other legal tango to dance with the state because of their antecedents or are in Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC’s black book”.
